A meditative dance of colour, texture and pattern, my new series Ritual & Rhythm transforms fabric remnants into quiet acts of ceremony. One piece suggests another; colours lean toward each other; curves begin to echo and respond. Before long, a rhythm emerges
Ritual & Rhythm 1 is the first in a series of 24×24” fabric collage paintings born from that contemplative process. Each work begins with symmetry, a grounding composition of curvaceous shapes that offers balance and calm. Within that framework, I improvise with patterned textile fragments. The compositions feel both ancient and contemporary, like ceremonial objects reimagined for the present moment. Working on this piece has been deeply soothing. The repetition of selecting, cutting, and arranging becomes its own ritual, a way of settling into the present.
I’m delighted to share the first work in the series with you today, and I look forward to revealing the others as they emerge from my studio.

My Optimism of Color Blog
Every Tuesday and Friday, I post a photo or piece of art that I’ve created that reflects what I call the Optimism of Color. Through vibrant colors and bold visceral forms, these works shout out my joy at being alive, and my good fortune at being able to continue to make art after surviving five cardiac arrests in one night in 2011.
Each of the images I post brings a smile to my face. I hope they bring you similar joy and laughter through the Optimism of Color.
