Urban Fresh – photographic impressions of the Steel City’s natural environment

This photograph of Confederation Park is one of a series of images in my Urban Fresh exhibition on throughout November at Gallery4, in the Hamilton Public Library, Hamilton, Ontario Canada.

Since returning to my hometown from Toronto in 2008, I have been photo-documenting Hamilton’s unique natural, cultural and industrial heritage. In this series, I have re-interpreted commonplace parks and natural areas to give them a new visual sensibility.

“I want viewers to slow down, stop, and really look at the wonderful natural environment of the steel city – to see the commonplace as if for the first time.”

This exhibition was supported by a grant from the Ontario Arts Council.

About the Optimism of Color Blog

Every Tuesday and Friday,  I’m posting a photo or piece of art that I’ve created that reflects what I call the Optimism of Color. Through vibrant colors and bold visceral forms, these works shout out my joy at being alive, and my good fortune at being able to continue to make art after a near death experience.

Each of the images I post brings a smile to my face. I hope they bring you similar joy and laughter through the Optimism of Color.
